Turntable Furniture is delighted to be working with Torbay Council to broaden its reused furniture service to residents across Torquay, Paignton and Brixham.
The furniture reuse charity, based in Exeter collects donated furniture and electrical items to pass on to families/individuals who are in receipt of benefits and may need help with furnishing a home.
Clients are referred to Turntable by local authorities, housing associations and other support agencies. Rather than sell items to clients, Turntable ask for a small donation to offset running the charity’s administration and running costs, which means those needing help can furnish their new home for less than £100.
Paul Baldwin, Manager for Turntable said; ‘Turntable is dedicated to helping as many people as possible. It has been a challenging 15 months and Covid 19 has had a real impact on being able to provide our goods to those who need it. Given this, we have still been able to deliver over 150 beds to people in the Exeter and East Devon area, proving we are a vital support for those who need our help.’
Working with Torbay Council, we hope we will be able to widen our delivery and collections so that residents in this area can also benefit from the service we provide. Initially we will be collecting and delivering once a week in the Torbay area but will look to expand our service if demand is required.’
Cllr Christine Carter, Cabinet Member for Corporate and Community Services, Torbay Council said; ‘Turntable provides such a vital service in assisting individuals and families to furnish their homes. We are seeing an increasing number of individuals and families who are living without some of the basic furniture needs,
such as beds, mattresses, a place to sit, a table to eat at, and white goods such a fridge, cooker and washing machine. Items some of us may take for granted in our daily lives whilst others may struggle to afford. Through our link with Turntable we will be able to provide these essential items and help residents to furnish a home without the financial worry.’
Turntable has also launched a new online furniture portal so that those who have been referred to the charity, can view the furniture online and select the items they would like, providing greater access to furniture stock that is available and reducing the need to travel to the charity’s warehouse in Exeter.
