Urgent repairs at Broadsands public toilets

Due to a broken sewage pumping system, urgent repairs will be needed for the public toilets at Broadsands beach in Paignton, and portaloos are being installed to help on busier days such as weekends.

But the good news is that brand new toilets will be opening in the area towards the end of September, as part of Torbay Council’s £2million investment in the area’s public toilets, working with Healthmatic.

Torbay Council became aware of the issue at the weekend and as a temporary solution portaloos were delivered to the area yesterday (Wednesday 12 August) and there will be additional cleaning of the portaloos during this busy period.

Full repairs to the sewage pumping system will need to take place out of season (mid-September) and when tides are lower. It is estimated that the repairs will cost around £50,000.

Councillor Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Environment and Culture for Torbay Council said: “We are continuing to invest in our public toilets and as well as the new improved facilities we have been working hard to open there will inevitably need to be some repairs as well.

“We look forward to the new toilets opening at Broadsands later in the year but in the meantime at this busy time of year the portaloos will help provide back up for residents and visitors.”
