A brand new specialty coffee from Voyager Coffee is launching at the upcoming Bristol Coffee Festival on 14th September. This unique coffee has been transported across the Atlantic on board The Ide Min, a wind-powered sailing cargo vessel, as part of an initiative to support sustainable shipping.
Named after its producer, Luz Helena Salazar, Voyager’s new washed coffee from her farm in Armenia, Quinado, Colombia, offers vibrant notes of grapefruit, plum and milk chocolate.
Luz Helena is an exceptional coffee, which has been sourced through a partnership with New Dawn Traders, a pioneering organisation dedicated to sustainable shipping, and Cofinet, an importer known for nurturing close relationships with Colombian coffee producers. The voyage underscores Voyager Coffee’s commitment to sustainability and innovative approaches in the coffee industry, highlighting the environmental impact of traditional shipping while championing better practices.
Emma Davis, Managing Director of Voyager Coffee, says, “At Voyager, we’re always looking to reduce our environmental impact, and the Ship by Sail journey is a fantastic way to help us with that goal. Transporting Luz Helena Salazar’s coffee from Colombia to Devon using wind power and minimal emissions perfectly aligns with our commitment to sustainable practices. This coffee not only carries a powerful story but also makes an exceptional cup.”
Voyager Coffee, known for sourcing from sustainable farms and hand roasting every batch on the edge of Dartmoor, continues to push the boundaries of environmental responsibility with projects like Ship by Sail. The company also leads the way with 100% compostable packaging, ensuring sustainability is at the core of its offerings.
The Bristol Coffee Festival is the South West’s largest celebration of specialty coffee, featuring over 40 exhibitors, workshops, panel talks, and competitions. Attendees can meet the Voyager Coffee team, taste Luz Helena and learn more about the journey that brought this coffee to their cups.
Voyager’s Luz Helena will be available to purchase at the festival and online at voyagercoffee.co.uk from the 14th of September, priced at £14 for 227g and £25 for 500g.
10% of the sales from this coffee will support Project Waterfall, a charity dedicated to bringing clean water, sanitation and education to coffee-growing communities worldwide.
