Warning after fly tipping in country lane linked back to owners

South Hams District council are warning people paying to have rubbish removed to make sure the person has a waste license.

The warning comes after a local resident paid £60 for rubbish removed which was then dumped in a lane just minutes away from the property.

South Hams District Council said on Facebook: “This waste was dumped by a person who was advertising for work on Gumtree. He collected the waste from a house just five minutes away, charged the owners £60 and then dumped it in this lane.

“Evidence pointing to the original owner was found in the rubbish, they were contacted and agreed to collect the waste and dispose of it correctly.

“If you pay for someone to take away your waste please make sure they have a licence to do so”
