A humpback whale has been freed after getting entangled in fishing equipment off Start Bay this afternoon, 1st April.
The whale was reported to be trapped in fishing gear between Strete Gate and Blackpool Sands.
Dartmouth Coastguard Search and Rescue, Salcombe RNLI and British Divers Marine Life Rescue attended, managing to free the whale within hours.

The whale has been seen regularly around the Start Bay and Berry Head areas over the past month and this is the second time it’s been caught in fishing gear, previously being freed on 22nd March in a multi-agency rescue.

The Start Bay Whale has just swam past the pub. Earlier reports were that she had been trapped again so we're all thrilled to see her.
