Woman charged with attempted murder after child seriously injured in Torquay

A woman has been charged with attempted murder and actual bodily harm following an incident in Torquay on Friday 17 December.

Emma Thompson aged 47 from Bench Tor Close, Torquay, has been charged with attempted murder, and also actual bodily harm in relation to a second assault on a separate child on the same date. Thompson remains in police custody and is due before Plymouth Magistrates Court on Monday 20 December.

Emergency services were called just before 4pm to reports of a child having been seriously injured following an incident at a property in Bench Tor Close.

The child, who had sustained serious injuries and was taken to Torbay District Hospital where they remain following surgery. The child is expected to make a full recovery.
