The fire service were called to reports of a fire at a property on Kents Lane in Torquay in the early hours of this morning.
The fire service received multiple calls to report the incident at around 1am.
Two fire engines from Torquay and one from Paignton attended snd found the ground floor of the property well alight.
A was rescued from the property by members of the public prior to the arrival of the fire service. She was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Devon and Somerset Fire and rescue service said on their website:”On arrival the incident commander confirmed the ground floor of the property was well alight. The crews got to work extinguishing the fire using four breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and two safety jets.
“The incident commander confirmed the ground floor of this property was severely damaged by fire and the first floor was severely damaged by smoke.
“Fire investigation is still ongoing at this incident to determine the cause of the fire.”
