Woodbury Park is calling women across Devon to grab their friends on Thursday 5th June or Sunday 15th June and enjoy an exhilarating afternoon on the golf course. Women on Par offers women of any age – young, working or retired – the opportunity to be introduced to golf or to further their amateur game, whatever their current standard. The Club Company’s initiative offers women midweek or weekend 3-hour intro sessions at all 18 of its clubs.

What’s included all for the bargain price of £10:

-A 30 min hit up on the driving range
-A 2 hour ‘Team Scramble’ on course – teams of 3 or 4 women battle it out (with 1 female member as a volunteer guide and mentor) over 6 holes with a Par 3 distance (100-170 yards). Each group requires a 7 iron, a PW and a putter with a shotgun start so that everyone finishes on time.

-All participants are invited to relax in the bar with a gin & tonic and snacks after they’ve completed their round

-Closing speech from the club with a prize presentation and a next steps on how to continue their ‘golf journey’

Women on Par is an initiative aimed at changing perceptions of the game and showcasing it as an accessible sport for women, no matter their age and fitness. The very nature of golf as an outdoor sport provides women with so many clear benefits: health and wellbeing, social and life skills, career opportunities and also just pure enjoyment. In 2023, women made up almost a quarter of the world’s registered golfers according to the R&A but in 2024 England Golf/s DNA report cited that only 14% of golf club members are female.

Richard Downs, Club manager for Woodbury Park says: “We are seeing more and more women fall in love with the game of golf but still the numbers are not equal in terms of membership across the UK. We’d love to play a part in changing that and ensuring more women are getting out there on the green and improving their mind, body and soul at the same time.”

Cara Gainer, pro golfer and ambassador for The Club Company, comments “When I first started playing golf 14 years ago it was still a very male dominated sport. I’m so excited and inspired to see more women playing – starting from all ages. Women on Par is such a great initiative and I’m passionate about encouraging more girls and women to get involved – it’s such an exciting sport but the best bit is, unlike other sports, you can keep playing into your 80s. Come on girls, get out there and have a great afternoon out with your friends, I promise it won’t disappoint.”

Woman on Par is one of a number of exciting new golf initiatives that The Club Company are offering to golfers. This summer the club is set to launch a brand new Strike Nine membership, which for the first time combines the Strike Shack, powered by Toptracer range facilities with the clubs fantastic nine-hole course.
