Young carers have been tuning up in readiness for a performance of original music with members of the Bath Philharmonic Orchestra.
Fourteen young musicians from Torbay have been rehearsing and creating both musical and artistic pieces, preparing for a show at the Palace Theatre in Paignton later this month.
The nine to 16-year-olds are spending six days rehearsing and creating with musicians from the Bath Philharmonic, including its musical director, Jason Thornton.
At the end of the project they will be performing an original piece of music and displaying their artwork at the palace Theatre in front of friends, relatives and peers on Wednesday, August 17th.
Johanna Morrell, director of the Torbay Youth Trust said: “Our long-standing relationship between Bath Philharmonic Orchestra and Torbay Young Carers Service is very special. It’s a privilege to have been chosen by them again this year for their summer Young Carers Project.
“To see Young Carers getting swept up in a magical musical experience for a few weeks is wonderful to see – they get an opportunity to have a break from their caring role, discover new talents and connect with peers. The longer term impact on their confidence and self esteem have been recognised by parents and carers.
“We can’t wait for the final performance, which will be a special showcase of their hard work during the project – and an opportunity for parents, carers and professionals to come together in celebration.”
