Carers from across Torbay are being invited to attend a host of events this June for some well-deserved fun and relaxation – all timed to coincide with National Carers Week 2019 (10 – 16 June). Carers Week is an annual campaign to celebrate the essential, and often unsung, role of unpaid Carers.

Organised by Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust – Carers Services and other local organisations, Carers will be able to take some time-out to enjoy various events held throughout the week.

Fourteen events are taking place across Torbay, with an emphasis on Carers having some time for themselves and Getting Connected. The activities include:

· Themed Afternoon Tea at the Anchorage Hotel

· Cream Tea at the Morningside

· Free admission to Torre Abbey & Torquay Museum

· Tour and Talk with Torquay Fire Service

· Aromatherapy Workshop

· Local Literary Links and a Light Lunch

Natalie Townsend, Carers Services Coordinator, said “This year, the theme is ‘Getting Carers Connected’ and there will be plenty of opportunity for Carers to connect with others throughout the week of events.

“It is always wonderful to see unpaid Carers relaxing and enjoying a day out, it is so important that we recognise our unpaid Carers and provide them with opportunities like this to take time-out from the support they provide.

“We are looking forward to welcoming as many unpaid Carers as possible to these events. Please do contact us as soon as possible to book your place as the events will fill up fast!”

The closing date to sign up for these events is Friday 3rd May 2019. Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis. To apply please complete the Carers Week application form, available from Signposts for Carers on: 01803 666620 or go online here: www.torbayandsouthdevon.nhs.uk/services/carers-service/signposts-magazine to see the full line up of events and to download the application form.
