A383 blocked after jackknifed lorry loses fuel

Man taken to hospital following Paignton fire

Emergency services were called to the A383 this morning following reports of a Jackknifed lorry .

The fuel tank of the lorry had ruptured, causing approximately 500 Litres of fuel to leak.

Initially, one fire engine from Newton Abbot attended, who then requested the attendance of the Environmental Protection Unit along with a support appliance from Newton Abbot.

Crews got to work attempting to stem the flow and stop the fuel from entering a nearby stream. Crews confirmed approximately 500Litres of fuel leaking and contained the fuel using a Dam.

The Road between Love lane and Howton Lane junction in Bickington, near Newton Abbot is blocked as recovery work takes place.

It is thought there have been two separate accidents on this stretch of road this morning.

We will update when the road is clear.
