Ageing Well in Torbay

Last Autumn, the Torbay Community Development Trust’s Ageing Well programme won a £6 million grant from the Big Lottery aging wellFund. The grant is to help elderly people overcome feelings of isolation and exclusion

Nearly half of Torbay’s population are aged over 50, and, due to retirement, bereravement and poor health, many thousands of these local residents are isolated.

So what do older people want? They want to contribute to the community and be respected and valued, and put a sense of purpose back into their lives. Many have stated they feel they have nothing to live for.

The Ageing Well Torbay programme hopes to enable older to people to regain their sense of purpose, and to encourage aging to be celebrated and viewed positively.
