Appeal for witnesses following assault on police officer

Road closed due to police incident in Torquay

Police have appealed for witnesses following an assault on a police officer this morning, Tuesday 25 October.

The assault, which happened whilst the police sergeant was carrying out routine enquiries, happened in Bartholomew Terrace, near to the Catacombs area of the city, between midnight and 12.10am. Two members of the public have been thankes for intervening.

The officer sustained choking and punch injuries. He was checked over in hospital and later discharged.

A man aged in his 40s from the Honiton area has been arrested on suspicion of assault and being drunk and disorderly. He remains in police custody while enquiries continue.
