Investigating officer DC Dixie Dean, said: “The suspect entered the garage from the from the Halfords Store end of Avenue Road, pushed past customers who were queueing and produced a large knife before demanding money from the till.

“The suspect then jumped up over the counter and stole £350 from the till and a bottle of Gordons Pink Gin from the alcohol cabinet behind the cashier, before leaving the store and running off towards the direction of the sea front.

“We believe that there were a number of customers within the store during the time of the incident many who have yet to have come forward and give their account to police.

“These witnesses could hold information vital to the investigation and we urge them to make contact with us.

“The suspect is described as a white man, mid to late 20’s, slim to medium build, short black beard, pale skin, 5ft 8ins to 5ft 10ins tall with a local accent. He was dressed in a black hoody with the hood up, black trousers and black trainers which have white soles.”

A 33-year-old man from Torquay was arrested on 3rd September and has been released on police bail until Monday 1 October.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101@dc.police.uk quoting crime reference CR/080130/18.
