Appeal for witnesses following serious assault in Torquay

Police have appealed for witnesses and information following a serious assault in Torquay earlier this month.

Police were called to the Tesco Metro on Fleet Street, to reports of an assault at around 8.20pm on Thursday 4th July. The 44-year-old victim was reported to have suffered a medical episode following the assault, he was taken to Torbay Hospital before being transferred to Derriford with a serious head injury. He remains there in a critical but stable condition.

A 31-year-old man from Torquay was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He was released on police bail until Friday 2 August.

Anyone who witnessed the incident and anyone with information that can assist with the investigation, or any businesses or properties in the area that have CCTV is asked to contact 101@dc.police.uk quoting CR/059475/19.
