Apple Day Returns to Cockington Court

Cockington Court’s Apple Day will take place on Sunday 16 October between 11am and 4pm with free entry to the public.

A traditional apple press on the front lawn will be the star attraction with demonstrators turning apples into juice and describing how to transform the juice into delicious homemade scrumpy. Visitors are welcome to use apples gathered from Cockington Court’s very own orchard or can bring their own apples for pressing, for a small donation.

There are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy including: arts and crafts, live music, drumming workshops, an apple themed treasure hunt, a baking competition, horse and carriage rides, and over 30 market stalls selling food, drinks and crafts. For those wanting a bite to eat, hot and cold food will be available all day from the Seven Dials Café and a wide range of local cider and beer will be on offer from local traders.

Marissa Wakefield, Director of Cockington Court who is leading the event on behalf of TDA, said: ‘‘With the cancellation of the last two Apple Days due to COVID, we have been working hard to make this year’s event extra special. I have been working with fellow local community stakeholders Cockington Church, Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust and Friends of Cockington Country Park who have all contributed towards making this a fantastic event for the whole family.

‘‘There are lots of fun activities planned throughout the day and we have a brilliant range of stall holders with homemade food and craft products for sale. We will also have a free bus running from the Strand in Torquay so that visitors can leave their cars at home. There is no need to book in advance for the event, just turn up on the day and join the fun.’’

The free shuttle bus will run regularly from the Strand Torquay to Cockington Court between 10am and 4pm. The bus is being provided by OurBus Torbay and donations are welcome.

Alongside Apple Day activities, resident Cockington Court makers will be showcasing their creative skills in their studios, providing visitors with the opportunity to learn about their craft and purchase their creations.

Visitors can also explore the insect-themed Sculpture Trail which runs until the end of October. The trail features 28 diverse sculptures located around the Manor House and grounds.

Cockington Court Centre of Creativity is operated by TDA as both a visitor attraction and an innovation centre to cultivate art, culture, and local talent, supporting small local creative businesses.
