Apple Day sees biggest crowd in its history

Cockington Court, managed by TDA, held its first ever free to enter Apple Day and as a result the crowds swarmed in to enjoy the fun-filled atmosphere.

Taking place for the 24th year, the event turns Cockington into a place awash with all things apple.

Over 10,000 visitors enjoyed tasting and taking home a variety of locally sourced, delicious food and drink, while watching the traditional cider press in action, turning the autumn windfall into juice.

Families enjoyed a range of activities from creative crafts to apple themed challenges and games, while being wowed by children’s entertainers and live music from local bands.

Cockington Court Tea Rooms created a fantastic range of apple themed foods all made using apples grown by the Feijoa Project in the Court’s new orchard in the walled art garden.

Nicole Amil, Executive Lead for Tourism, Culture and Harbours, said: “The Cockington Court team achieved exactly what they wanted to by making it a free family event. The atmosphere was fantastic and all the stalls, live music and activities were enjoyed by everyone. It was great to see so many local people and visitors seeing Cockington at its finest.”

Marissa Wakefield, Cockington Court Craft Centre Director, said: “All our hard work came to life on the day, with a fantastic range of high quality stall holders offering homemade products and great live bands. Cockington is such a great all year round destination, we love hosting inclusive events across the year here to showcase our truly spectacular setting and offering.

“This one will go down in history books as the first free Apple Day that we have run here. Also, we have now added a great tradition of the cutting the apple pie to share with everyone at the end.

“Everybody who visits gets a chance to see our fantastic resident craft makers in their craft studios, showcasing their unique products and how they are made. The Court is constantly offering new experiences, exhibitions and seasonal foods that can be enjoyed again and again.”
