Armed Forces Day to take place on Paignton Green

Torbay Council, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and a number of local organisations will be supporting an Armed Forces Day event at Paignton Green on Saturday 1 July.

Britain’s armed forces past, present and future will be honoured at this special event taking place between 10am and 1pm.

A military parade will commence at 11am from the Shoreline restaurant marching along Paignton Esplanade to the Redcliffe Hotel.

There will be a number of military vehicles and stands on Paignton Green. The 6 Rifles, ATC 200 Squadron, Devon ACF, Torbay Sea Cadets and Royal British Legion are amongst military organisations attending the event.

Torbay Brass Brand and Exeter Pipe Band will be providing music. Bays Brewery will be supplying a pint and a pasty for all participating military personnel.

Torbay’s Mayor Gordon Oliver said: “This extremely popular event which helps raise public awareness of the contribution made by those who serve and have served in Her Majesty’s Armed forces. It also gives the opportunity to show the depth of support of our community has towards the Armed Forces.”

Torbay Council’s Chairman, Anne Brooks, said: “This is a wonderful family event which is strongly supported by the local community. Torbay Council is pleased to help organise this important event, and we are extremely grateful to everyone who has helped make it possible especially local businesses including Torbay Taxis Ltd, Bay Brewery and the Redcliffe Hotel. A special thanks also to all the volunteers give up their time to mark this special occasion.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone to the event, and hope that the day provides a fitting tribute to all those who have served in, and continue to serve in, our armed forces.”

Complimentary transport for Veterans is very generously provided by Torbay Taxis. Please book in advance, call 01803 211611, by 20 June and quoting this event.
