Resurfacing work on Brixham Road at the junction with Roselands Drive and Wilkins Drive in Paignton started on Monday, 25 September 2023.
The scheme is being carried out on behalf of housing developers to remedy issues with the original surfacing.
During the works, the pedestrian crossing has had to be closed for safety reasons.
Unfortunately, it has not been possible to provide an alternative crossing in the immediate area due to the road layout and the levels of the nearby footways.
This means that during the resurfacing works, pedestrians will be directed to the nearest crossing point. This is at the junction with Yalberton Road to the north of the works area.
There is a pedestrian refuge at this point, but the crossing is not fully controlled so extra care is needed when using this crossing.
Some pedestrians may be able to use the footbridge between the nearby Sainsbury’s car park and Harberton Close. However, we appreciate this will not be an option for everyone.
A spokesperson for Torbay Council said: “We apologise for the inconvenience that the changes to the crossing facilities will cause to pedestrians during the works.
“We are working with the contractor to ensure the resurfacing is completed and the pedestrian crossing is reopened as soon as possible.
“We expect that the works at the junction will be finished in the allocated three-week period, weather permitting.
“There is more information about the programme of works and traffic arrangements on our website.”
