Ashburton Library is moving up

A move and a brand new look are on the cards for Ashburton Library this year.

The much-loved community space is moving to a new upstairs location at its existing location at 4 Lawrence Lane. The move makes way for the Ashburton Hub to invite community banks to use the lower floor, and will give a dedicated upstairs space to the town’s library.

To enable the upgrade to take place, the library will be closed from Monday 24th April. It will reopen in September.

Stuart Rogers from Ashburton Post Office is the owner of the building and has generously funded the refurbishment. He said: “Ashburton Library and Ashburton Post Office are cornerstones of our thriving community. Ashburton Hub will invite banks to use the space to serve people in Ashburton. This will make a positive difference to the economy and environment of Dartmoor. I’m really happy to be able to offer this enhanced space for local people to enjoy all the valuable services that the library provides.”

Ros Parkes, Ashburton Library Supervisor, said: “The new library will be in a dedicated, purpose-built space and will be a very welcome new look for our customers to enjoy. As it will now be on the first floor there will be a lift to ensure all members of the community can access the space and continue to enjoy our services which range from book lending, free WiFi and computer access printing facilities,
author talks, groups and other events.”

Book loans will be extended to cover the closure period so that none are due to be returned during the time the library is closed, and customers are encouraged to borrow up to 20 books to make sure they have plenty to read. They’re also invited to use online services to reserve, renew and browse at devonlibraries.org.uk or visit the nearest libraries at Buckfastleigh, Totnes, Ivybridge and Newton Abbot. Check the website for library opening times.
