Bijou Theatre Productions presents classic thriller, Gaslight

The Palace Theatre’s resident theatre company, Bijou Theatre Productions will be performing the classic thriller, Gaslight, directed by Andrew Kenyon. Taking place from Thursday 25 to Saturday 28 April, and as part of the Play on Words Festival programme, Gaslight is described as a really spooky, on-the-edge-of-your-seats thriller.

Andrew says “After the success of our recent play “Laying the Ghost” we turn to something far more sinister and thrilling. Gaslight is a classic, Victorian thriller that has stood the test of time. It is sinister and spooky and still as relevant today as when it was written. We promise to keep you on the edge of your seats.”

The play is set in fog bound London in 1880 at the middle-class home of the Bella and Jack Manningham. It is late afternoon, the time between the need for gaslight and tea. Bella is clearly on the edge being driven mad by her husband’s sinister tricks. He tells her off at every opportunity and flirts outrageously with the servants in front of her. What really upsets Bella is his peculiar unexplained absences, the strange noises from the empty flat next door and erratic behaviour of the gaslights that seem to dim and relight on their own. he is clearing trying to unsettle her and is succeeding very well.

Director, Andrew has cast Danielle Hopkins as Bella, Martyn Christopher as the husband, Jack and Colin Baker as Inspector Rough. The Inspector is in a race against time to expose Jack as a thief and a murderer, and to reveal his true identity.

Bijou stage four plays a year at the Palace Theatre, and they have performed an Agatha Christie summer season run almost every year since 1984. Following the Gaslight play, Bijou will return with the world famous, A Murder is Announced every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening from 4 June to 25 July.
