A community volunteering day is coming to Brixham on Saturday 28 April. Brixham’s Community Action Day will give people the chance to get involved in volunteering opportunities on a day filled with taster sessions.
On the day, people will be able to pick different charities and community organisations to visit and volunteer to do a small task. The Torbay Community Development Trust has been organising the action day to promote micro-volunteering.
Micro-volunteering takes a simple concept, that people are more likely to volunteer their time in short, bite-sized chunks – and turns it into a new approach to community action. It offers volunteers easy tasks that can be done anytime, anywhere, on their own terms.
Organisations signed up for the day include The Edge, Brixham Museum, The Cleaner Coasts Initiative, plus many more. Each organisation will be providing a range of activities, including painting, photography, gardening, cleaning and even research, along with many more activities.
Hayley Tranter, Associational Community Builder at Torbay Community Development Trust, said: “We’ve all got busy lives so this is a fantastic opportunity for people try a range of different volunteering opportunities without having to commit on a regular basis.
“Many people think that volunteering means you have to do a certain task every week or spend time doing things on a regular basis, so we’ve organised the Community Action Day to show that you can get involved in smaller tasks, can volunteer once year or even for one off events.
“It’s going to be a great day for everyone in Brixham and we’re going to celebrate at the end of the day with an event at Brixham Scala Hall from 6pm-8pm for everyone taking part in volunteering on the day, so come along and let’s celebrate Brixham’s community spirit.”
