Cars in Newton Abbot were damaged last night, Thursday 8th August after part of a tree fell on them during bad weather.
The tree at Forde Park has now been cordoned off with work taking place to make it safe.
Councillor Andrew MacGregor, Lead Member for Sports and Recreation, said:
“It’s really sad to see such a well-established and prominent tree having to be taken down.
“Unfortunately the tree has caused some damage to cars parked underneath it, but luckily nobody was hurt. As with all our trees and woodlands, this tree is subject to regular inspections, and we will be carrying out additional inspections this weekend to monitor any other damage as a result of the predicted storms.”
It will be removed when the weather improves.
Teignbridge District Council said on their Facebook page: “Sadly our biggest tree in Forde Park was severely damaged by the storms last night and will need to be taken down. Unfortunately it damaged some cars too, but luckily nobody was hurt. We’d ask people to please avoid the area while we carry out the initial clearance work to make it safe. We’ll remove the trunk next week when the weather improves.”
