Coastguard’s early morning call out is a hoot!

Berry Head Coastguard got an early morning shout out in the early hours of this morning, 15th January.

Called to reports of shouts for help around the Sharkham area at 1:17am, they found two owls calling for each other.

A spokesperson for Berry Head Coastguard said on their Facebook page:
“We were tasked by Solent Coastguard to investigate a report of shouts for help in the Sharkham area. On arrival we listened intently but all we could hear were two amorous owls calling to each other. One team went down and searched St Marys Bay beach while another team went to the first informants house in Sharkham village to speak to him.

“Satisfied that no-one was in trouble we confirmed with Solent that the owls were most likely responsible and it was considered a false alarm with good intent,”

Adding “Cue all the owl puns … frankly we couldn’t give two hoots,”
