Coastguard called to flashing light under water

Torbay Coastguard were called to Torquay last night, Sunday, 18th February after reports of a flashing light under the water.

Police and Coastguard both attended Torre Abbey Sands following the reports just before 8.30pm.

After investigation by the coastguard, a mobile phone was recovered.

A spokesperson for Torbay Coastguard said on their Facebook page: “We were tasked by Maritime and Coastguard Agency after reports to Devon & Cornwall Police of a flashing light under the water at Torre Abbey Sands. We deployed a team member in our water rescue equipment to investigate the area and a mobile phone was recovered,”

This was the 18th call out for Torbay Coastguard this year.
