Torbay Council are pleased to announce that over 30 community and voluntary groups across Torbay have received a boost towards covering costs they have lost due to Covid-19.
The Voluntary and Community Sector Covid-19 Grants Scheme was set up to provide some relief to the extra pressure those in this sector have felt over the past three months.
Organisations that have received these funds range from those who have been providing meals and extra support to those most in need. The scheme has also supported sports groups who are struggling due to a reduction in fees they would normally receive and fund raising opportunities, but they have nevertheless continued to provide support to their members and the wider community.
Councillor Steve Darling, Leader at Torbay Council, said: “Our Community and Voluntary Sectors have really gone above and beyond in their response to the Covid-19 emergency. I am glad we have been able to support them through this Grant scheme.”
Councillor Jackie Stockman, Cabinet member for Adults and Public Health, said: “This pandemic has meant our community and voluntary groups, who have been on the frontline of the response to this emergency, have incurred a wide range of extra costs. This extra pressure has come from not only an increase in referrals but also a loss of income due to closure of shops and venues. They have also experienced a reduction in, or not even receiving any money for charges, fees or fund raising. I hope this Grant Scheme goes some way of helping them during this time”
