The image of the notice was posted on Facebook page Humanity Torbay, along with the comment “Well torbay Council what have you got to say about the second eviction notice put on my couples tent . Oh my god really !!!!!!!! [sic]”

Torbay council said in an online statement: “There’s been some concerns expressed on social media regarding correspondence with individuals in a tent.

“Please be assured that we are aware of the individuals concerned and we have been working closely with them. We are helping them to secure accommodation and making sure they are safe. We can’t say any more than this as we are unable to comment in detail on individual cases.

“We have dedicated teams that work with rough sleepers to help resettle them into accommodation and address any support needs they might have. We don’t have housing stock and so our options for sourcing suitable accommodation can be very challenging, but we can help people secure accommodation. This may not be immediate as, often, the personal challenges that someone experiences (both leading up to and whilst rough sleeping) can be complex; sometimes they do not feel able to move into accommodation straight away and require support to work towards this.

“If you are concerned about anyone sleeping rough then please contact 01803 217890 and the team will ensure that people are then linked in with available services to get the help and support they need,”
