Teignbridge together with East Devon, Exeter and Mid Devon Councils are all considering whether to begin the next round of consultation on the Greater Exeter Strategic Plan.

The plan, known as the GESP, includes draft planning policies and large scale development options across all four council areas.

The GESP, which looks to 2040, will tackle big planning issues affecting the Greater Exeter area. These include climate change, meeting the need for new homes, jobs and infrastructure, transport and wildlife protection. The GESP will also identify possible development sites across the area, including large regeneration sites in Exeter.

Each council will be holding meetings to ask councillors to agree the ‘draft policies and site options’ document and public consultation begin in September. Exeter City Council will be first to decide at its Executive meeting on 7 July. Teignbridge’s Executive will consider the proposals and decide on 21 July followed by East Devon on 23 July and Mid-Devon on 6 August.

The Councils are being asked to carry out consultation from September. This was originally planned for June but has been put back to the autumn following Government advice that authorities should continue with the planning process despite Covid-19.

The consultation will ask the public to have their say on the draft policies and site options and the plans can be viewed on the ESP website https://www.gesp.org.uk/
