After seeing what appeared to be a dead dog on the road this morning, a local man asked Facebook page Spotted Torquay to alert the owner to the sad news.

The man had finished a night shift and unable to stop due to the traffic.

The post said:  “Im so desperately sorry to break this news. But there looks to be a dead dog on the bottom of the Paignton bound lanes of Hamelin Way by where the Pineapple used to be. Possibly a retriever or something. Golden and fluffy. I really hope that it was a bit of lagging etc but my gut instinct tells me it was a dog. If it is then Im very sorry to whoever’s day has begun with heartbreak,”

Another local drove to the area to check out the situation and confirmed that it was indeed lagging.

But looking at the photo, you can see why it was thought it could be a dog!

Everyone on the Facebook page was relieved to hear that it wasn’t a dog!
