A farm company is to pay £1,500 to the Devon Wildlife Trust after causing pollution by the discharge of slurry that entered a brook.
J.R. and S.R.Dagworthy agreed to pay the sum under the Environment Agency’s Environmental Undertaking arrangements. These are civil sanctions used as an alternative to prosecution.
The farmers had caused slurry to discharge from Downham Farm at Woodbury Salterton causing pollution in the Grindle brook in February 2021.
As well as paying £1,500 to Devon Wildlife Trust, the company agreed to carry out a number of measures to prevent further incidents and to paying the Environment Agency’s investigation costs.
Environment Officer, Nicola Rumsey, said: “Environmental Undertakings are an excellent way of ensuring that when a company has caused pollution, an organisation working to improve the environment benefits.”
