Berry Head Coastguard, Torbay inshore lifeboat and paramedics were called to Brixham in the early hours of this morning after reports of a man in the water at Break water beach.

The man had made his way to the harbour before the Inshore lifeboat was launched. The crew took him to the boat house where he was warmed up checked over by paramedics.

A spokesperson for Berry Head Coastguard said:
“Despite being very intoxicated the man had managed to swim from Breakwater beach, round the breakwater and into the harbour. Alcohol and swimming never mix well together and he was lucky this time. It could easily have been a very different outcome.”
