The English Riveria Food & Music Festival has been cancelled.
The festival was due to take place in May with bands such as Scouting For Girls, Razorlight and UB40 on the line-up.
In a statement Torbay Council said today: “We regret to inform you that the English Riviera Food & Music Festival that was scheduled to take place between 26-29 May 2023 at Torre Abbey Meadows in Torquay has been cancelled.
“We understand that this is hugely disappointing to those of you that have purchased tickets, made travel or accommodation arrangements, or took time off work to attend.
“The event company Case Live has stopped trading. We are aware that liquidators have been appointed, ticket holders can expect to be contacted by the liquidators early next week. Ticket holders may have financial protection through their credit card provider. There is a helpful guide on claiming refunds on the Which? website How do I get a refund from a ticket seller? – Which?
“As a council we invested £20,000 in supporting this event, and we like ticket holders will be a creditor in the liquidation.
“The council’s investment in this event was a part of the 3-year event budget of £750,000, and we remain committed to bringing the community together in new and innovative ways. We will continue to work to bring exciting events to Torbay in the future.
“There is still a great summer of events to be enjoyed across Torbay including our Coronation Celebrations (6-8 May), the English Riviera Airshow (3-4 June), Electric Bay (15-16 July) plus many more.”
Case Live have said; “We are extremely disappointed to have had to take the decision to cancel the English Riviera Food & Music Festival. The rising costs and strain on disposable income have sadly left the event unattainable. We know this is incredibly disappointing for all stakeholders, as it is for us as organisers and not a decision, we’ve been able to make easily. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, sadly our companies are entering liquidation, and all ticket holders and stakeholders will be contacted in the coming days. We would like to thank everybody for their support, including artists, partners, suppliers, local businesses and Torbay Council.”
