The incident happened on Sunday 11th August.

Police say the couple’s injuries are consistent with a fall from height.

DS John Allenbrook said: “We can now say that both parties have injuries consistent with a fall from a height.

“It appears from witness accounts and an examination of the scene that theyhave fallen four to five metres onto rocks near to the location they were both found, which is around the high tide mark.

“The incoming tide may account for why the female was in the sea. Her husband remains stable at Derriford Hospital, supported by his family and is assisting police with enquiries.

“Their dog is not believed to have entered the water and is fit and well, but significantly the dogs’ behaviour appears to have alerted the security guard, which led him to the water where he discovered the female, resulting in police attending and locating the man.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101@dc.police.uk or by calling 101 quoting log 267 11 August.
