Exmouth RNLI volunteers receive two calls for help in an evening

During the evening of 31 August, Exmouth’s inshore lifeboat George Bearman was tasked twice by Solent Coastguard.

Whilst on an inshore lifeboat exercise, volunteers were tasked to a 24′ sailing boat drifting upstream, 150m off Lympstone.  The Crew were on scene at 6.30pm to tow the vessel alongside from the busy River Exe to safety on a mooring inside the Starcross pontoon.

Towards the end of the monthly Crew meeting, the Coastguard requested assistance with a 24′ cabin cruiser aground on Maer Rocks, 100m south of the Lifeboat Station. George Bearman launched again at 8.54pm, and was on scene in less than a minute.

Crew volunteers investigated the situation and agreed the boat was hard aground, but there was no danger to life as the vessel wasn’t taking on water and had a tender and outboard motor on board. The two people with their dog chose to stay on board overnight and the inshore lifeboat Crew streamed their anchor.

The tide lifted them at 6.18am the following day and they continued on passage.
