Exmouth RNLI’s Dougie is running the London Marathon

Exmouth RNLI volunteer crew Dougie Wright will be running the London Marathon 2023 in aid of the RNLI.

The 40 year old father of two has been accepted into next years London Marathon and hopes to meet his target to raise £2,300 for the lifesaving charity.
Dougie is no stranger to taking on extraordinary feats – he completed the 2020 RNLI Reindeer Run competition in 2020 running a marathon in 3 hours and 49 minutes raising nearly £500 for the RNLI charity. The following May he successfully completed the Exmouth RNLI ’72 for 72’, a 72 kilometre relay along Exmouth seafront with his crewmate Geoff Mills raising nearly £4,000 for the lifesaving institution. As if that wasn’t enough, in June 2022 he took part with other Exmouth RNLI crew in the gruelling CrossFit challenge, raising £1,500.

And on Sunday 23 April 2023 he will be donning his running shoes again, determined to complete the challenging 26.2 mile course around London and raise yet more essential funds for his chosen charity.

Dougie, who has been an Exmouth RNLI volunteer for three years and is qualified to crew both the inshore and all weather lifeboats, has already started his training for the prestigious event. He said “This will be my very first London Marathon and I’m really looking forward to it. As an active member of Exmouth RNLI lifeboat crew the lifesaving charity is very important to me. As crew, I am only too aware of the importance of funding to provide essential training and equipment to enable us to rescue everyone in difficulty in or on the water, often in rough seas and extremely dangerous conditions. I am pleased to be taking part and would like to thank everyone in advance for their support.”
