Fire crews from across Devon tackle thatched roof blaze

Update 16:00 : The fire is now under control and crews have confirmed that the ground and first floor of the properly have been severely damaged by fire.  4 fire engines remain on scene using water from a nearby street hydrant and compressed air foam jets.

Fire crews from across Devon are currently tackling a blaze in Ide near Exeter.

12 fire engines are at the scene, including appliances from Topsham, Crediton, Newton Abbot, Cullompton, Exmouth and Torquay.

The fire service were called to the property at Little Johns Cross, Ide at around 8.30am this morning following reports of curtains on fire within a property with a thatched roof.

A Building Surveyor from the local council is also on scene overseeing the structural safety side of things.

Western power also attended in order to isolate the electrics to the property and to ensure that overhead power cables were safe.

Updates will be added as more information becomes available.
