Fire crews battle log blaze in Ashburton

Elderly women treated for smoke inhalation after kitchen fire

Fire crews were called to Whistley Hill last night after reports of a large log pile fire.

One appliance was mobilised from Ashburton fire station at around 7.15pm.

On arrival, the Incident Commander confirmed there was approx 20 tonnes of logs well alight.

A second aplliance was later mobilised from Buckfastleigh.

Around a quarter of the logs were destroyed in the fire.

The cause of the fire was unknown.
