Fire crews were called to reports of a fire in the woods near Ashburton in the early hours of this morning.

One fire appliance from Ashburton, one fire appliance from Buckfastleigh and one fire appliance from Newton Abbot and the water bowser from Torquay were mobilised to the incident in the woods behind Stormsdown at approximately 1.30am.

A workshop and a caravan were involved in the fire. Police set up a 200m cordon, closing the road due to Acetylene, Oxygen and LPG cylinders being involved and strong likelihood of explosion. A Hazardous Materials and Environmental Protection Officer was also mobilised to this incident.

Crews remain at the scene cooling the acetylene cylinder.

All persons have been accounted for.

This incident is on-going and we will update as information becomes available.
