Fire crews tackle thatched roof blaze

South Devon fire fighters battle Kingsbridge industrial estate blaze

Fire crews are currently at the scene of a fire in Tuckenhay near Totnes.

The fire service were called to reports of smoke issuing from thatched property in Bridge Terracs at a 19:45pm
Fire appliances from Totnes, Dartmouth, Paignton, Buckfastleigh, Newton Abbot, Torquay and Brixham were mobilised to the fire. The Incident Command Unit from Totnes along with the Water Carrier and Aerial Ladder Platform from Torquay were also mobilised.

A gire service spokesperson said:
“Upon arrival crews confirmed fire involving roof of a mid terrace cottage measuring approximately 5m x 5m.

“Crews set to work using four breathing apparatus, compressed air foam, three hose reel jets, one covering jet and one safety jet.

“Crews currently creating fire break and cutting away, steady progress being made.”
