The fire service was called to a report of a fire in the open at Long Wood near Kingswear at around 4.50pm today, 15th July.
The incident is on-going with firefighters at the scene. All trains on the line have been stopped.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said on their website:
“Two fire appliances from Brixham and Dartmouth with off road vehicles from Dartmouth and Kingsbridge and a water bowser from Torquay were mobilized.
“Fire crews confirmed smoke issuing by the railway line and requested the attendance of an additional off road vehicle at with water capability from Middlemoor Exeter. Fire crews also requested a stop on all the trains at this location.
“Fire crews were also proceeding to a second seat of fire on the north side of Long Wood near the railway line at the above location.
“This incident is ongoing – further details to follow,”
