Rangers at Haldon Forest Park are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a spate of vandalism at the site near Exeter.

Between 19 and 24 July, several gates around the forest have been cut and a number of signs have been torn down or damaged. Rangers have been left puzzled about the motivation for the attacks.

Haldon Forest Park manager, Katy Harrison, said: “Unfortunately, vandalism is something we are used to dealing with, but the extent of these incidents has been surprising. Signs have been damaged around our main entrance and in gateways, where we ask vehicles to keep emergency access clear. Where gates have been attacked, there is no evidence of trespass, they seem to have been damaged for the sake of it.

“It’s a shame that these essential repairs will now divert our resources away from things that would benefit more people, like looking after walking and cycling trails. It is also concerning that the vandalism seems to have involved sharp or heavy tools, and a lot of strength to punch through layers of wood and metal. If anyone noticed anything unusual happening around Haldon Forest Park between 19-24 July, please contact Devon & Cornwall Police 101 with crime number 50240180521.”

Haldon Forest Park is located just off the A38, 15 minutes from Exeter and Newton Abbot. The park sits within the 1500 hectare Haldon Forest, providing accessible walking and cycling trails for all abilities, alongside a range of other activities.
