Free book launch and reading at Plymouth Central Library

Author, Emma Rosen, will be hosting a free reading of her book “Secret Seagrass Meadows” for children and their parents at Plymouth Central Library on Saturday.

Set in Plymouth, Emma Rosen’s beautifully illustrated book aims to inspire and engage children aged approximately five to seven, and their parents, about this valuable habitat, which is right on their doorstep. Illustrations in the book are by Rhiannon Thomas.

Ms Rosen will be hosting the book reading for families at Plymouth Central Library on Saturday, 24 September 2022 at 10.30am
(no booking required). The author will also be touring local primary schools. 200 free copies of the book will be given away to Plymouth families, schools and libraries. The project has been funded by Natural England.

Liz Bailey of Natural England said: “At
Natural England, we understand the role that connecting people with nature can play to support happy and healthy people in thriving, natural settings.

Seagrass beds are a vital habitat
for many marine animals and play an important role in tackling climate change. Natural England is leading efforts to restore seagrass in Plymouth through the LIFE Recreation ReMEDIES
project.

“This innovative book offers an important window on this work for children and parents living in Plymouth and beyond. We hope that it will spark an interest for our future generations and local communities in marine conservation.”

The book launch is part of Plymouth Ocean Week events, a partnership between Natural England, Plymouth Marine laboratory, Devon Wildlife Trust and Ocean Conservation Trust, which aims to break down the barriers preventing children from accessing the marine environment and provide them an opportunity to experience the full breadth of marine conservation initiatives locally.
