Head to Cockington Court this October half term to enjoy free family events.
With Cockington Apple Festival on Sunday 20 October and the Halloween and Day of the Dead Festival running from 21 October until 3 November, there is so much going on.
Cockington Apple Festival is new this year – a bite-size version of the traditional Apple Day, celebrating all things Apple. From 10am – 4pm there will be games, craft, cider and apples galore. All the family can take part in a range of activities from apple craft workshops to apple themed challenges and games.
Marissa Wakefield, Cockington Court Craft Centre Director, said: “After 25 years of Apple Day we are introducing Cockington Apple Festival, a bite-size version celebrating the history and wildlife of Cockington along with all things apple. Apple Day grew to be one of the biggest days on the Cockington calendar, but we want to take it back to what it was in 1993. We are proud to keep this free, local, craft and apple themed event alive.”
Apple Day started in 1993 when Brian Carter created the event. Brian was a founder member of the Cockington Coast and Countryside Trust, a popular writer and poet, and also a contributor to the local paper for 30 years.
The Halloween and Day of the Dead Festival returns after being a huge hit last year, with a spooky trail, activities and craft workshops around the Court. There will be a terrifying story telling time too for anyone who is brave enough!
Marissa continued: “Everyone really got into the spirit of Halloween and Day of the Dead last year. The Manor House and its grounds were filled with people dressed to impress and with face painting to match. We can’t wait to do it all again this year.”
While all the events are taking place in and around Cockington Court, the resident craft makers in the craft studios will be showcasing their creative skills. The glass-blowing, blacksmiths and chocolatier are just some of the highlights.
