Torbay and Teignbridge Councils have secured funding to provide free training to Landlords across the Bay and the Teignbridge area.

This free one day course, which will be delivered by professional trainers in the industry, is for those who want to gain a better understanding of the legislation that is linked to managing a property. The course is also open to agents and property managers.

By attending this course landlords will also receive accreditation status and one year’s membership to the South West Landlords Association.

Councillor Swithin Long, Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Tourism and Housing for Torbay Council, said: “As a landlord it is important that you have a good understanding of the legislation and best practice. This ensures you have a compliant business that provides a safe environment for your tenants whilst maximising your income. This training is also a great way to receive ongoing support from experienced landlords.

“To support our local landlords we have secured funding from the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy. This means training, accreditation and landlord association membership package can be provided for free for any landlord, agent or property manager based in the Torbay and the Teignbridge area.”

Councillor Jackie Hook, Teignbridge Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing, said: “We’re delighted to have secured this funding, which will further support the Property Agents Rating Scheme (www.teignbridge.gov.uk/pars). It will ensure that letting agents and property managers are fully compliant with all legislation. That will be good news for their businesses, good news for tenants and good news for all of us who want to ensure that high standards of best practice are maintained in this vital sector.

“To date 15 agents operating in Teignbridge are members of the PAR scheme and work is ongoing to ensure all agents who let properties in the district comply with the latest legislation. We would encourage letting agents, property managers and landlords in Teignbridge and Torbay to take up this offer of free training”.

A limited number of places is available on this training and they will be offered on a first come first serve basis.

The training dates and venues are:
13 January 2020 – Paignton Library, Great Western Road, Paignton TQ4 5AG
