Celebrated DJ and actor Craig Charles is set to join the bill as Basement Jaxx make a thrilling return to live shows when they play Powderham Presents this summer.

The funk and soul tastemaker will be bringing his legendary DJ show to the grounds of Powderham Castle near Exeter before Basement Jaxx’s headline performance on Friday July 4, with rising DJ Storm Mollison opening the party.

Craig and Storm join the line up, alongside the previously announced headline show from Duran Duran with special guests Nile Rodgers & CHIC on Thursday July 3 at the newly launched Powderham Presents concerts.

Tickets are on sale now from www.ticketmaster.co.uk

Craig Charles’ career has seen him transform from respected actor to musical icon with more than 20 years of broadcasting under his belt.

He’s become one of the UK’s foremost DJs and promoters of new music via his pioneering BBC 6 Music Funk and Soul Show, which has been airing since 2002, and multiple shows on BBC Radio 2. He performs his legendary funk and soul DJ sets to tens of thousands of fans across the UK every year.

Craig has had a diverse TV career, appearing in Red Dwarf and Coronation Street as an actor and has hosted Robot Wars.

London born and Florida raised, Storm Mollison showcases a musical palette ranging from groovy Chicago house and disco to UK garage and 140 breaks, and she’s played some of the top club nights and festivals, including KOKO, Fabric, Lost Village and Glastonbury.

Cementing herself as one of the UK’s most adept DJs, and with a residency on Rinse FM, Storm has built an increasing presence as an innovative and distinct producer.

Basement Jaxx are bringing their legendary, euphoric energy-filled live experience back this summer, after 10 years away from the main stages of the world.

Starting in 1994 with a series of underground EPs on their own Atlantic Jaxx label, Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe’s distinctive combination of house and garage with punk attitude, global influences and unforgettable tunes quickly developed a cult following.

Their 1999 debut album Remedy featured breakthrough hits Red Alert, Rendez Vu and Jump & Shout. Their 2001s follow up Rooty was even bigger and louder: Where’s Your Head At provided an evergreen anthem that still crosses generations and genres.

From the start, their live experience has been a showstopper leading to headline slots at Glastonbury: first on The Other Stage, then by 2005, the same year they won the GRAMMY for best electronic album, the Glastonbury Pyramid Stage, Coachella and London’s Hyde Park.

The past 10 years have seen Basement Jaxx remain festival favourites but headlining behind the decks rather than the front of the stage – but the time is now right to bring back the full eye-popping technicolour experience

With a capacity of up to 25,000 people per day, Powderham Presents will create a vibrant summer spectacle.

Powderham Presents promoter Oliver Mason said: “Craig Charles and Storm Mollison are the perfect people to get the party started ahead of what will be a storming headline show from Basement Jaxx at Powderham Presents in July. We are delighted to add them to the line-up for these incredible nights of live entertainment!

“With our headline stars Basement Jaxx and Duran Duran, and the iconic Nile Rodgers & CHIC as very special guests, as well as Craig and Storm, Powderham Presents promises to be an absolute highlight of the summer and we cannot wait to welcome fans to our beautiful grounds.”
