Garden waste collections service in Torbay

Have you registered for Torbay’s kerbside garden waste collection service yet?

Get Spring Ready for 2023! Why not join the thousands of people in Torbay who have already signed up for the garden waste collection service. Once signed up all you have to do is put your garden waste in the brown bin – no trips to the Recycling Centre! The service is available for most of the year (apart from the last two weeks of December and the first two weeks of January) so you can sign up at any time in the year.

Torbay Council wants to increase its recycling rate from the current 37% to 50% – and kerbside garden waste collections are a key part of helping to achieve this. The service is provided on behalf of the Council by SWISCo.

Garden waste subscriptions are £50 per subscription (or £40 per year for those on Council Tax Support) and you get a 240L size brown bin and 12 months of collections for each subscription (with each household being entitled to sign up for up to three subscriptions or three brown bins).

Leader of Torbay Council Steve Darling said: “If you sign up for our garden waste collection service you can save yourself trips to the recycling centre and, in the long term, money on petrol, so it’s more convenient, cost efficient, and also better for the planet. Thousands of residents have already registered for the service – so why not join them?”

Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Environment and Culture, said: “Our garden waste collections are the ideal way to help you look after your own patch and also benefits the environment. Here at Torbay Council we’re committed to doing all we can to improve recycling and reduce our carbon footprint – and the more people that sign up for garden waste the better. All the garden waste collected is turned into compost and used at a local farm so by signing up you are doing your bit for the planet!”

The following items can be put in brown bins:

· Grass cuttings

· Flowers

· Small branches up to 10cm thick

· Loose leaves

· Shrub trimmings

· Hedge trimmings

Alternatively if you wish to discuss or find out more you can call 01803 701310.

The service resumes from Monday 16 January.
