Torbay residents are being asked for their views on plans for a new assisted living complex in Torquay.
As part of Torbay Council’s ongoing commitment to providing more affordable housing in the Bay and as mentioned in Torbay’s Local Plan, Torbay Council and TorVista Homes are planning to build 72 new Extra Care assisted living homes at Torre Marine in Torquay.
The scheme will be for residents with care and support needs and staffed 24/7 giving peace of mind to residents that someone is on hand in the event of a fall or some other need. It will have a range of facilities including a café/restaurant that will be open to the wider public.
The land is currently owned by Torbay Council but will be transferred to TorVista Homes who will also be the social landlord for the site. TorVista is a Registered Provider and a subsidiary of the TDA, who will be working with Torbay Council and ADG Architecture to engage with local stakeholders. TorVista’s vision is to provide good quality, affordable homes, for all sectors of our community. The development is on a brownfield site (former South Devon College site) which was previously stalled for many years while in private ownership.
Councillor Swithin Long Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Tourism and Housing, said: “We are pleased to announce these plans for a major new Extra Care housing development for Torbay and invite local residents to let us know what they think.”
Darren Cowell, Deputy Leader for Torbay Council said: “This will be a fantastic scheme for Torbay so please do have your say on the survey and give us your feedback on the proposed scheme.”
Rick Williams, TorVista Homes Chairman, said: “We are excited to be working on plans for this new development with the Council and ADG Architecture. This facility will bring much needed affordable homes for residents with care and support needs and enable them to live independently.”
The planning application will be submitted in February but prior to this there will be a period of public engagement for ten days from 19th January. Information will be available at both Torquay and Paignton libraries as well as both TorVista and the Council’s websites.
