Last nights hospital lockdown was caused by reports of a man making a threat towards Torbay Hospital.
Police say they received a call from a member of the public at 5.40pm on Thursday, 22nd March reporting that a man had made a threat towards Torbay Hospital.
The threat was treated seriously and armed response officers were deployed to the hospital to search for the man, described as in his 50s, around 6ft tall and with grey hair.
Torbay Hospital closed its doors to protect staff and the public for a short time while the threat was negated.
People in the area at the time report that armed police were present and searches were being carried out both inside and outside of the hospital.
Devon and Cornwall Police would like to reassure the community that the incident has been dealt with and local officers are investigating the allegation.
Torbay Hospital has reopened its doors and has thanked Devon and Cornwall Police for its professionalism in this matter.
