Brixham mum, Vikki Francis, 43, is training for a massive 3-marathon challenge in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society and has secured the backing of a leading local housebuilder.
Vikki, who is a Sixth Form Learning Mentor at Brixham College, started her marathon challenge on Saturday along the South Devon Coast Path, beginning and ending at the Steam Fair field just outside Brixham.
Persimmon Homes South West has proudly become a principal sponsor for Vikki, contributing £1,500 to support her challenge. The marathon challenge is part of the Alzheimer’s Society national Trek 26, with similar marathon walks taking place throughout the UK.
Vikki’s first marathon was last Saturday, the second will be around Snowdonia on June 29th, and the final marathon in the Cotswolds on July 6th. Alzheimer’s Society is one of the charities supported by Brixham College, and Vikki is motivated by a very personal connection to the cause.
Commenting on the support from Persimmon for the challenge, Vikki said:
“I am incredibly grateful to Persimmon Homes South West for their generous sponsorship. Walking three marathons is no small feat, but knowing that the funds raised will go towards vital research for Alzheimer’s disease keeps me motivated.
“The support from local businesses like Persimmon makes a huge difference and brings us closer to finding a cure for this cruel disease.
“Today, virtually everyone knows someone affected by Alzheimer’s Disease or other forms of dementia, and currently there’s no cure.
“One in three people born today will develop dementia – it is a cruel disease and the more money we raise, the sooner a cure can be found.”
Stacey Harris, Sales Director for Persimmon Homes South West, added:
“As a local business operating around the Brixham area, we are delighted to support Vikki Francis in her remarkable effort to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.
“Her dedication and determination are truly inspiring, and we are proud to contribute to such a worthy cause.
“At Persimmon Homes, we believe in giving back to the communities where we build, and supporting Vikki’s challenge aligns perfectly with our commitment to making a positive impact.”
Persimmon is currently building a new development, Inglewood, consisting of two, three, and four-room quality new homes in Paignton, South Devon. Prices range from £284,995 to £364,995.
