A new programme in Torbay is helping residents aged 17 and over to improve their digital skills.
People can sign up for a one-off session or weekly sessions, depending on their availability and the level of support that they need.
All training sessions are delivered in person at sites in Torquay and Paignton and all IT equipment is provided. For people who find using traditional hardware challenging, adaptive technology is available.
This programme is suitable for anyone looking to boost their digital skills, knowledge and confidence using IT. This could be someone looking for a new job or to advance in their career. It could also be someone who would like more confidence using IT in everyday life, such as with online banking, emails and the internet. Participants can also obtain an AQA accreditation through ongoing training and multiple sessions.
Whatever the motivation, personalised support is available. The programme is funded by the UK government and the training is completely free for Torbay residents.
Commissioned by Torbay Council, the programme is being delivered by local partner organisations Turning Heads CIC and Maker Arts CIC.
Training sessions take place at Turning Heads’ office on Lime Avenue, Torquay, or Maker Arts’ studio on Parkside Road, Paignton.

Councillor Chris Lewis, Cabinet Member for Place Services and Economic Growth for Torbay Council, said: “So many things are done online these days, whether it’s booking your doctor’s appointment, checking your bank balance or applying for a new job. Unfortunately, many people don’t feel confident using digital technology which can make their lives more difficult. This new programme will give residents the training and support they need to boost their digital skills and their confidence.’’
